Men’s Summer Suits with House of Fraser

It’s my favourite time of the year. A time when I can finally put all of my coats and jackets away into storage for a good few months, until the freezing temperatures of November reaches us. As a person who lives in suits nearly every day of the year by choice, it’s a thrilling time for me as it means I no longer have to hide away the suits I wear by burying it under my coats whenever I am outside.

House of Fraser got in touch recently asking me if I would collaborate with them and offered me a suit of my choice to love, embrace and wear.

When picking a suit, I would always advise experimenting with different colours. Forget about the rules. Forget about playing it safe and certainly forget about choosing a suit based on what you think others would like. As with all clothes you buy, I always say you should pick them based on what compliments your personality and not on what’s “hot” or on-trend. Your clothes speak for themselves and give everyone an impression of the type of person you are.

The suit is a special set of garments and greatly underrated. I wear it as often as I do because it makes me feel empowered. I feel grown-up. I start seeing things differently. I communicate and behave in a more confident way. I have always believed that what you wear is much like a mask as it turns you into another person.

Another wonderful side to wearing a suit is that it needn’t be formal. You can easily dress it down by wearing a t-shirt instead of shirt and replacing your formal shoes with smart trainers. This would quickly change it from the business look, to cool and casual.

As I mentioned you should buy clothes that matches your personality, I chose a suit from House of Fraser based on what I would personally buy myself. On most occasions I like to stand out instead blending into the crowd so I chose this Adams Skinny Fit Three Piece Suit by Label Lab. It is ideal for the summer season because it reflects the bright and bold colour palettes of the blooming flowers. I love checks and vibrant colours so this was perfect.

I also greatly value a three-piece over two any day. The three-piece suit is something rather special. It is taking things up another level. It is the stuff of greatness. I associate it with affluency and men of supreme confidence. It is making a statement to the world that you can take on absolutely anything.

This particular three-piece is very lightweight and is partially made of elastane which makes the fabric stretchable. This ensures flexibility and comfort when you move and twist your body. It is suited for those with a slim figure as it wraps itself around the shape of your body and looks even better if you have wide shoulders as the jacket will stretch wider around the shoulders to compliment your figure, achieving that very masculine v-shape look torso many men desire for themselves.

The most important aspect of buying a suit is ensuring it fits perfectly on your body. So if you don’t know your body measurements then I highly recommend take out the measuring tape and making a note of them.

A few basic tips when buying a suit:

1) There are at least three types of fits when it comes to suits. Classic, slim and skinny. Classic is more suited to those who like the boxy fit look or have a few extra pounds around the waistline. Slim fit is for those who don’t have love handles and prefer a more defined silhouette with a tailored look. Skinny fit is for gents with flat stomachs who prefer a tight, muscled look.

2) Your jacket should never look longer than your trousers. If it does then your jacket is simply too long and it will make you look short.

3) On a single-breasted jacket with two buttons, you only fasten the top button. Never the bottom.

4) Your trousers should never cover up your shoes. This is a dreadful look. Ensure your trousers drops to just above the top of your shoes and the hems does not go further below that level.

5) If you are short in height and slim then go for a pair of slimmer fitting trousers as this will make you look taller. Avoid wide trousers. If you are very tall (over 6 foot) and have skinny legs then you should go for wider trousers. This will make your body look stronger, especially your legs.

With the wide range of colours and patterns available today, there has never been a better time to buy a suit and if you are reading this then I am guessing you are thinking about adding one to your collection. If so, good choice. You’ll never regret it. They will never go out of style. You can view a large selection of suits at House of Fraser by clicking here.
