I was super excited when I was given this phone by LG a few weeks ago. You might think that I would feel obliged to blog about it, praising it to the hills but you would be so wrong. A few years ago, I used to be a hardcore iPhone lover. My first iPhone was the 3GS, and then I was one of those crazy people who queued at 6am in the morning to get my hands on the then revolutionary iPhone 4 outside the Regent Street branch. I had to stand for 6 hours that day and have no regrets – it was brilliant fun (I made so many friends and staff from local cafes fed us and gave us free coffee). My love affair with the iPhone 4 lasted over 3 years. During that time I was sent three top of the range mobile phones for free from phone manufacturers trying to get me to cheat on my then beloved iPhone, and hoping I would brag about how good it was on the blog but I only blog about the things I like if I genuinely do like it. I did not like those phones too much so I never blogged about them. My growing frustration with Apple’s failure to increase the screen size of its phone tempted me to try the Samsung Galaxy S4 last summer, when it was gifted to me, and that phone was the first phone I felt was much better than the iPhone 5. The screen is superior – is was the camera.

When LG approached me a few weeks ago, I have to confess I knew nothing about its phones. After all, most people appear to either have an iPhone, Samsung or HTC. I was curious to have a closer look. The last time I had an LG phone before the G3 was perhaps 10 years ago – back in the days when everyone had those God awful flip-phones (how were they ever so popular?!). I looked up the specs on the G3 and on paper it looked incredible, so I accepted LG’s kind offer to be given the phone. I was not expecting very much from the G3. I just thought, if it is so good, how come barely anyone I know has the phone? I am glad to report, it is an incredible phone – easily the best I have ever owned, and I know iPhone fans are going to hate me for this – it is much better than even the iPhone 6 Plus. For instance, the screen has a much higher resolution (2560 x 1440 pixel resolution) than the iPhone 6 (1920 x 1080 pixel resolution) which means the images appear sharper and crisper. The iPhone 6 Plus has pixel density of 401 ppi but the LG G3 has a superior 534 ppi. The G3′ cameras also trumps the iPhone 6 Plus. The G3’s has a 2.1 mega-pixel front camera and a 13 mega-pixel rear camera. The iPhone 6 Plus’s front camera is only 1.2 mega-pixel and the rear is 8 mega-pixel. The G3 also has an amazing feature of being able to record videos in 4K which is superior to HD 1080p. The iPhone 6 cannot record in 4K. The battery capacity of the G3 is bigger too.

Let’s take a moment to admire the aesthetics of LG G3. The first thing I wondered when I picked up the device is, where the heck are the buttons? There are no physical buttons on the front – at all. Not even a home button. And… there are no buttons on the sides, nor on the top or bottom of the phone. It looks super, super sleek and so smooth without them. Truly minimalist. There are three buttons on the back and they don’t even look like buttons. I love it.

In a few days, I will have another blog post showing you actual photos I have taken using the phone and my overall experience of using it! :)
