Sneak preview: Dr Martens Autumn & Winter 2014 (AW14/FW14) collections

This year I really have gone shoe crazy. I think largely in part because one New Year’s resolution I made back in January was to wear nice shoes several times every week. By nice shoes I mean smart shoes. Dress shoes. Formal shoes. You see, in 2013 I lived in Converses from morning until night and even wore them to launch parties. I wore my Chuck Taylors at least 340 times out of the 365 days we had. Nothing wrong with that. I do love Converses – they are extremely comfortable to walk in, and even run in, all day long but I felt it was time to grow up a little and start wearing grown up shoes too. So over the first quarter of this year, I had invested in many very beautiful lace-up formal shoes, and in turn this really made me look at formal shoes in a different light. Brogues are extremely attractive to me now, as are Oxford shoes – whereas last year I used to think they were “nice”. I also have a new-found appreciation for Dr Martens and cannot get enough of them. I have already bought five pairs in 2014. Now you know what I mean by shoe crazy!

A few weeks back I was invited for a sneaky peek at what we will be seeing in the shops from Dr Martens later in the year. It was a viewing that left me feeling elated. The shoes are looking smarter and more beautiful than ever. We are seeing more brogues – not the usual classic brogues you see everywhere – these brogues have clashing colours and fabrics. I truly adore them. The boots with shiny toe caps are also gorgeous. My wish list is growing painfully long. Ouch.
