The Kristian Steinberg Autumn & Winter 2014 presentation (AW14)

It was a welcome break to have a little time away from womenswear and jump into the world of menswear for one evening, and it was no ordinary evening. This invite was for an intimate gathering inside the Estonian Embassy in Kensington, for a presentation by Kristian Steinberg – a designer from Tallinn, Estonia who started his own label 7 years ago with a collection of men’s shirts. He has studied at Central St Martins and worked with Alexander McQueen, Rafael Lopez, Amanda Wakeley and Marios Schwab. His work is largely influenced by the anatomy of the human body and ultra tailoring.

Kristian’s autumn and winter collection draws inspiration from classical sculpture turned into an architectural embrace of the male body. So it’s all about mixing sporty with tailoring, with emphasis on textures, proportions and the anatomy of the masculine body. Using cork alongside digital prints of marble, he experiments with the idea of organic sculpture and matter. Fabrics includes the use of top Italian wool with luxury merino. It was an impressive presentation.

I must also add that Kristian and the Estonian Embassy staff were extremely welcoming. I was treated like Royalty at all times and it was a real pleasure to have a chat over drinks. We discussed fashion and some of our favourite places in London. A wonderful evening.
