Can socks and high heels ever look good together?

Whether you like it or not, they seem to be making a comeback. For as long as I can remember, it was considered a faux-pas – particularly socks and sandals. In recent times perhaps this view is changing and I think one reason why is because we are seeing an increasing number of women embrace knee-high socks, particularly celebrities. This is challenging the way we look at them. As I recall, it was not so long ago when when models on the Burberry catwalk show walked along the ramp wearing platform sandals and socks.

Now some fashion stores, including Topshop seem to be promoting this look. These are on display at Topshop, Oxford Circus right now:

So do you think they look good? I actually like most of them. For me it really depends on the socks, particularly the colour, and they will only work with heels, never with with flat sandals or gladiator sandals. If you are still not convinced, then how about this from one of my favourite people, Mayo, from lookbook.nu, (who I think is one of the best dressers I have ever seen)? Here is one of her looks:

I think socks-sandals combination looks incredibly chic and goes so well with her outfit. For me this is proof that it can look pretty good. Let me know what you think and vote in the poll below as well so that we can get an idea how my blog readers feel about it.
