A look at Whistles’ first menswear collection

There has been a lot of excitement over Whistles’ first menswear collection ever since the surprise announcement was made in October last year. CEO Jane Shepherdson mentioned how the brand has defined its aesthetic and achieved consistency in its design for womenswear, and felt the timing was right to enter the menswear contemporary middle market and bring the signature Whistles aesthetic to men.

Last week I went off to the whistles man’s house to have a closer look. The debut collection is said to be built on the foundation of contemporary design and modern utility. Emulating the intelligent design of womenswear, it has produced a refined wardrobe built to be timeless and accessible. There are premium knits, classic outerwear, versatile tailoring and accessories updated with a modern functional edge. Overcoats are oversized and biker jackets are refreshed with an aviator-style black shearling. There is also some sport luxe with the tracksuit made from cashmere. I love the hand-knitted chunky fluffy sweater with the roll-neck.

Whistles menswear will be priced below the designer market but above the mainstream and you will be able to buy the pieces in September 2014. I cannot wait.
