An afternoon surrounded by flowers

Last weekend I was given the opportunity to learn more about some of my favourite flowers. It was all arranged by The Flower Council of Holland as part of its Favourite Flower Spring Edition Campaign. The event included learning how to arrange flowers, hand-tie my very own bouquet with the help of a local florist, decorate my very own cupcake with floral designs and speak with experts about the roles flowers play in our lives. I had jumped at the opportunity as I absolutely love flowers, particularly around spring time and it was lovely to do something different away from the world of fashion. I took my friend Arabella along with me as I suspected she would enjoy it too, and it was an opportunity to spend the afternoon getting to know her a bit better.

We had a broad range of flowers to chose from and I had made up my bouquet made up of mostly roses and my favourite flowers which are lilies. I just love the horn shape of lilies – the way they open just makes them look terribly sophisticated and pretty. Arabella and I then learnt how to create a nice decorative floral layer on the top of cupcakes which wasn’t messy as I was expecting and easier than I felt it would be. I couldn’t help licking the icing off my fingers (naughty). As I drank more wine, Arabella had her hair beautifully braided and then decorated with roses (her favourites). I was offered the opportunity to have some put in my hair but decided it was too girly for me, and instead opted to have a single rose attached to the lapel of my jacket – a much better choice!
