Last Monday I attended a drinks reception at The Royal Academy of Arts to celebrate the success of this year’s wool campaign which announced 15 winning designs by fashion, textiles and design students from 12 collaborating universities. The Campaign for Wool, of which His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is a patron, is back with WOOL SCHOOL after a highly school successful first year which promotes the works and creative talents of students across the country through top UK retailers. The campaign attracted over 100 entries, with head designers and creatives at fashion brands working together to pick out their winners with the support of President of Conde Nast International, Nicholas Coleridge, knitwear specialist and tutor at Heriot Watt University, Sheila-Mary Curruthers, and Chair of The International Wool Textile Organisation, Peter Ackroyd.

The winners are:

Jessie Roselyn (Nottingham Trent University) for Albam
Hazel Hurst (Northumbria University) for Barbour (menswear)
Naomi Robertson (Northumbria University) for Barbour (womenswear)
Lindsay McQuarrie (Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design) for Brora
Eliot Moran (Middlesex University) for Christopher Raeburn for Harvey Nichols
Emma Lawrie (University of Edinburgh) for Folk
Jessica Gowans (Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication) for Hobbs
Eve Cavell (The University of Huddersfield) for Jigsaw
Kate Annis (Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design) for Lyle & Scott
Molly (University of Leeds) for M&S (menswear)
Katherine Watson (University of Leeds) for M&S (womenswear)
Francesca Stride (University of Glasgow) for Pringle of Scotland
Trina Outram (Kingston University) for Topman
Siobhan Tsang (Kingston University) for Topshop
Emma Brooks (University of Brighton) for Margaret Howell

Congratulations to them all! It gave me great pleasure to mingle and have a chat with some very talented fashion students of our future. They are all very lovely, and I told them that I hope they have a very long and successful career in design. All 15 wool sweaters are available to buy in stores nationwide to celebrate Wool Week 2013 (from 14th – 20th October). My three personal favourites are: Jessie Roselyn (Albam), Emma Lawrie (Folk) and Lindsay McQuarrie (Brora).
