Right after the Fyodor Golan show at The Savoy on the very first day of London Fashion Week AW13, I left the building only to turn around and head straight back in when I found out the venue for the next show – Gyunel – was due to take place there, inside The Lancaster Ballroom. I felt delighted at the prospect of spending a few more hours as the luxury hotel is amongst my favorites.

It was a very big moment for Azerbaijani-born Gyunel Rustamova, who was hosting her debut show during London Fashion Week. She has studied at London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martin, and enjoyed a good career as a painter (oil on canvas) before moving into fashion. Gyunel now provides a demi-couture bespoke service from its Kensington based studio. This show would be a career defining moment. Although I did not know what to expect before I saw the collection, I suspected we were about to see a collection of complex and very elegant handcrafted pieces.

All the make-up was done to perfection by the AOFM Pro team, led by Michelle Webb. The idea was to create a fantasy character inspired look, like something out of a magical storybook. Michelle applied Makeup Forever Flash Palette in white over the eyes of the models to give them a frosted icy appearance. Lashes and eyebrows were made white and finished off with glitter while the concealer was added to the lips.

The shoes were provided by GINA.

The Gyunel AW13 show was nothing short of magnificence. My favourite pieces were the gowns and I loved all the feathers.
